CIRCULAR HEROES is a collaboration between fashion designer Rafael Kouto and Peter D. Abayomi's Eran Jije Project. Photographed by Ruby Okoro, it documents Nigerian adolescents from the coastal community of Isale Akoka in Bariga as key players of the circular economy.

At the heart of THE LAND REMEMBERS is the simple but urgent truth that waste does not disappear. It moves, it settles, and it is absorbed into the land, water and infrastructures of communities that did not produce it. Consumption remains concentrated in one place, while its environmental and social costs are lived in another.

Bariga is one such place, a coastal community shaped by the materials that surround it, most of which arrive from the lagoon: waste, wooden boards, textiles, plastic. Through innovative recycling and upcycling ideas these discarded objects are turned into landfill, building materials, electronic repairs, musical instruments or fashion thereby contributing significantly to the global economy.

The proceeds will go directly towards supporting the local Nigerian teenagers from the Isale Akoka area in Bariga community at the heart of this project.
